Karen Bass Tribute To Her Late Daughter Explored
In a post on Twitter earlier this month, Bass expressed her gratitude to Los Angeles voters as she reflected on her mayoral campaign.
As she reflected on the inspiring individuals who had supported her political dreams over the years, including her daughter Emilia, she revealed in the series of posts what she had been thinking about while casting her ballot.
Bass raved about how her late daughter and her late husband, Michael, “encouraged” her to “fight for change” after dedicating a post to them.
Emilia embraced her mother’s love of social change and intended to follow in her footsteps into a devoted career, as stated on Bass’ mayoral website.
Emilia, who was 23 years old at the time of her death, had a few months left until she graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California.

Bass’ life was drastically altered in 2006 when her daughter Emilia perished in a vehicle accident as a member of the California State Assembly.
When this happened, the automobile Emilia and her husband, Michael, were riding in went off the road, according to a Los Angeles Times account. Before the car caught fire, it collided with a support beam on the 405 Freeway.
Bass reflected on her death 16 years later to The Issue Is and said that learning the news was like experiencing a “personal earthquake.”
She continued that people will tell you that things get better over time, but that is simply untrue. Such a severe loss never fades away.
Karen Bass Children Details
Bass’ sole biological child was Emilia, but according to her campaign website, Scythia, Omar, Yvette, and Ollin, her four stepchildren, are also like daughters to her.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Scythia, Omar, and Yvette are Jesus Lechuga, Bass’ ex-husband and biological children.
Bass has previously discussed her tight relationship with her stepchildren, saying she has known them “from the day they were born.”
