In an official statement, Sonia Azad confirmed her departure from WFAA Dallas after seven years in the industry.

Every job Sonia has had has helped her gain valuable experience. She covers health and wellness for WFAA TV, an ABC station in Fort Worth. She has done reporting work for television shows, and on Mondays and Fridays, you can catch her on News 8 Daybreak.

Sonia has covered a wide range of domestic stories, such as the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey’s medical aid, the deadly Dallas police ambush, President Obama’s subsequent visit to North Texas, Wendy Davis’s gubernatorial campaign, tornadoes, hurricanes, and wildfires, the Ebola crisis in Dallas, and the Aurora, Colorado, theater shooting.

Former Houston mayor Annise Parker’s marriage was announced by her when she was vacationing in Palm Springs, California. In 2011, Azad won an Emmy for her half-hour special report “Passage to India.”

The Texas Associated Press Broadcasters named her a top journalist in the state for 2012. In 2016, Sonia’s research on vitrification egg freezing earned a first prize from the Texas Medical Association.

In 2020, she won a pair of awards from the Texas Medical Association for her coverage of the easy seven and heart health, as well as the recall of blood pressure medications.

She had planned to leave her role as a news anchor and reporter. She planned to leave the firm to relocate the shed before the replacement arrived.
