What Are Grio Awards? Meaning and Winners

The Grio, an African-American-focused news website in the United States, gives The Grio Awards annually in various categories.

The inaugural “Byron Allen Presents theGrio Awards,” a two-hour ceremony recognizing “icons, leaders, and legends,” will be broadcast on CBS.

Among the victors are Patti LaBelle, Jennifer Hudson, and Queen Latifah. They also performed together with Fantasia and Yolanda Adams.

What Are Grio Awards?

The Grio Awards are divided into ten award categories. The Grio covers a wide range of topics, including politics, sports, service & activism, business, health, education, science & the environment, media, pop culture, arts & culture, and pop psychology.

The special’s musical director was Greg Phillinganes, and DJ Kiss handled the announcing and DJ duties. Yolanda Adams and Tyrese also performed a duet on it.

Allen Media Group and Backhand Productions collaborated to develop the television program “Byron Allen Presents The Grio Awards.” Executive producers include Allen, Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas, Jeff Atlas, and Michelle Willrich.

The special’s executive producer was Byron Allen, who is also the founder, CEO, and chairman of Allen Media Group. From 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT on Saturday, November 26, the concert will be broadcast live on Paramount+.
