Terry Francona of the Cleveland Guardians was unable to play due to an illness and scars.
After missing a sizable amount of each of the last two seasons due to health difficulties, they are overjoyed to have Terry Francona back in the clubhouse.
When Francona, the manager of the Cleveland Indians, announced that he would have to take a leave of absence and miss the final two months of the 2021 season, he appeared defeated.
A year of serious blood clots and stomach problems had just ended for Francona. In order to stop a staph infection until he could have another procedure at the end of the season, he underwent surgery on his left foot shortly after the start of the new year.

After rehabbing for the previous three months after surgery on his hip and left foot, Francona hopes to be reaching the conclusion of his time with crutches.
To find out how many more weeks he will have to keep all weight off of his left leg, he underwent his nine-week X-ray of his foot (which was corrected after a staph infection he was diagnosed with in January).
Once he receives that report, he’ll be able to schedule the rest of his recovery for this offseason. Francona said, “He’s been going to therapy; he’s trying to get healthy” in a Zoom conference with local reporters on Friday. He’s making an effort to come across as genuinely enthused about baseball.
