Teenage Shamima Begum, who was born in the UK but joined Islamic State, is unable to return. Shamima’s parents also pleaded with the government to keep Shamima’s British citizenship.

The UK will suspend Shamima’s citizenship in February 2019 as a result of the controversy surrounding her plan to visit the UK in 2019. This caused a court decision and sparked public debate about how to treat returning Islamic militants.

It was determined that she was brought into Syria for the Islamic State by a trafficker who, although information about Begum did not reach them until she arrived, provided information on those trafficked to Canadian officials via Jordan.

Who Are Shamima Begum Parents? Father Ahmed Ali And Shahnaz Begum

Shamima Begum, a little girl who fled the UK to join Islamic State, was born into a Muslim family; her parents are Shahnaz Begum and Ahmed Ali.

The Begum’s parents immigrated to England as Muslims of Bangladeshi descent and citizenship. Their daughter, then 15, left them when she was 15 to join Islamic State with two other friends after they left Banglaseh for better possibilities in the UK.

Ali originally moved to the UK in 1975 and later to Bangladesh in 1990 to meet Asma Begum, his first wife. The couple remarried and welcomed their four children, Shamima being the youngest. Then he returned to Bangladesh and wed Shahnaz once more.

Begum’s father has expressed regret to the people of Britain for his daughter’s decision to travel to Syria to join ISIS. Ahmed Ali pleaded with the British state and its citizens to accept Ms. Begum in an interview conducted before it was discovered that the newborn boy of Ms. Begum had died in a refugee camp.

Additionally, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Abdul Momen reaffirmed the nation’s position on Begum but said that due to the nation’s “zero tolerance policy” for terrorism, she would be subject to the death penalty if she entered the country.

Where Is Shamima Begum Now?

The little girl, who was born in Bangladesh but raised in England, was smuggled to Syria along with the other two girls to join Islamic State. Before joining ISIL, she was raised in the East London neighborhood of Bethnal Green.

Soon after joining the terrorist group, Begum marries a Dutch IS fighter and has three children, all of whom have passed away due to disease or horrible living conditions. Her spouse, Yago Riedijk, is being held in a prison camp in northern Syria that is managed by Kurds.

Four years later, she was located at a correctional facility by a reporter. She said she didn’t regret her actions at the time. She continued, “I genuinely respect British ideas, and I am ready to return and reside there.”

Despite the fact that Begum has never been to Bangladesh or filed for a passport, the nation has expressed no interest in awarding her citizenship.
