On Monday, Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, refuted a news agency report that he had been taken to the hospital with a heart condition and chastised Western media for false reporting.

According to the Associated Press, citing Indonesian officials, Lavrov was taken to the hospital after arriving on the island of Bali for a Group of 20 summits. According to the AP, Lavrov, 72, had received treatment for a heart condition.

According to Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, “This is obviously the height of fakery.”

Zakharova shared a video of Lavrov, who has served as Foreign Minister for President Vladimir Putin since 2004, reading papers while lounging outside on a patio while wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

When questioned about the report, Lavrov claimed that Western journalists had invented Putin’s illness for ten years.

Lavrov added with a wry smirk, “This is a form of the game that is not new in politics. “Western journalists need to write the truth and be more honest,”

Lavrov, who landed in Bali on Sunday night, claimed the Western media frequently presented only one side of the story and omitted Russia’s perspective.

Lavrov had only briefly visited Sanglah Hospital in Bali for a “check-up.” Still, the minister was in good health, according to Bali Governor I Wayan Koster, who spoke to Reuters.

The governor declared, “He was in good health and departed immediately. When contacted for comment on their story, Associated Press did not answer right away.

Since the Soviet era, when Andrei Gromyko, known as “Mr. Nyet” in the West for his unyielding stance, held the position for 28 years, Lavrov has served as Russia’s foreign minister.

After serving as a Soviet diplomat in Sri Lanka, Lavrov, a graduate of the esteemed Moscow State Institute of International Relations, is fluent in English, French, and Sinhalese.

Lavrov served as Russia’s permanent representative to the UN before becoming foreign minister.

He is known for his scathing remarks, especially about interlocutors who he believes are ill-prepared, and is sometimes referred to as “Dr No” in the West.

Lavrov repeatedly denied claims by the United States and Great Britain that Putin was getting ready to issue an order for an invasion before Russia invaded Ukraine.

Lavrov declared that Moscow would distance itself from the United States and its allies and instead deepen ties with nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America in the wake of the West imposing the most severe sanctions against Russia in modern history.
