She received a standing ovation after the audition, and Cabello admitted that it was her current favorite song for auditions. She and Bastola both agreed on the importance of fusing one’s heritage into music.

To give the coaches a taste of her culture, Bastola even gave them some rudraksha beads from Nepal. At that point, the teen had to select her coach. She chose John Legend despite the support of her family, who were watching from the stands.

The idea to perform an R&B song came to Parijita before she took the stage from her sister, who had grown up in India and was cut off from the rest of the family. There’s a video of her singing the national anthem and a cover of Adele’s “All I Ask” at a concert she gave as a solo act at the Nepal American Community Center in Fairfax, Virginia.
