Bickers appeared in federal court on Thursday to receive her penalty. She was convicted guilty in March on nine out of twelve counts, including breaching the law.
Bickers, who managed human services for former Mayor Kasim Reed, allegedly gave the business to two municipal contractors, Elvin “ER” Mitchell Jr. and Charles P. Richards Jr.
Investigators believe she exchanged nearly $17 million in work for the person and their firms for about $2 million in labour for the city.
Authorities claimed that Bickers used the cash to live a lavish lifestyle, which included buying a lakeside property, a premium SUV, jet skis, and great vacations.
She will remain under home arrest until instructed to enter an Alabama jail. According to her attorneys, they want to appeal.
Bickers, who was distressed, begged the judge to show mercy, claiming that she had battled the research for years with rage, anguish, and humility.
