Jann Simon Wenner, an American magazine entrepreneur, co-founded the popular culture journal Rolling Stone and formerly owned Men’s Journal.

While attending the University of California in Berkeley, California, he took part in the Free Speech Movement. Wenner and his boss Ralph J.

Gleason created Rolling Stone together in 1967. Later in his career, Wenner co-founded the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and many periodicals.

His Hall of Fame eligibility favoritism and the termination of his connection with eccentric journalist Hunter S. Thompson caused him controversy as a publisher and media personality.

He alleges that the publication published biased reviews. Between 2004 and 2006, Wenner contributed more than $63,000 to liberal organizations and Democratic candidates.

In September 2016, Advertising Age reported that Wenner was selling a 49% stake in Rolling Stone to Singapore-based BandLab Technologies.

The editorial content of the publication would not be directly influenced by the new investor. In October 2016, Wenner started releasing Glixel, a website dedicated to video games.

In September 2017, Wenner Media announced that the remaining 51% of Rolling Stone was up for sale. That portion was bought by Penske Media Corporation, and BandLab later sold the remainder of its assets to them.
