Skier Jacob Smith’s parents discovered he was visually impaired when he was eight. When their son’s eyes started to bleed, they noticed he was having difficulty seeing and took him to the hospital.
After several hours of surgery, the skier awoke without vision, and his family was informed that he had a grape-sized brain tumor. Nathan, his father, had been accompanying the family and him to Big Sky Resort since he was three years old.
Andrew, Preston, and Julia were the three siblings with whom Jacob lived his whole life. He liked to conduct freeriding with his siblings on the peaks of nearby Montana, where his family would frequently vacation.
In an interview, he recalled playing with them when he was eight years old. He began to experience vision problems as he grew and was eventually given a meningioma or brain tumor diagnosis.
