Although he and his family were originally from India, they moved to the UK in 1965 and subsequently to Canada in 1974. He currently has citizenship in both nations. He worked as an electrician and also a mechanic in Duncan, British Columbia, Vancouver Island.

Inderjit Singh Reyat, who made the bombs and lied in court, was sentenced, according to AFP. According to Canadian police, he provided false testimony, which allowed the other alleged attacker conspirators to evade conviction.

The main suspects in the attack were the Babbar Khalsa, a terrorist organization that has been outlawed in Europe and the US, as well as other associated organizations advocating for a separate Sikh state (Khalistan) in Punjab, India.

Based on sightings, wiretaps, searches, and arrests of persons suspected of being involved, it was determined that the bombing was the joint operation of at least two Sikh terrorist organizations with a large membership in Canada, the United States, Britain, and India.
