Eliud Kapchoge, on Sunday morning, rewrote the history books as he broke his previous record set at the Berlin Marathon.

Eliud does not work as a police officer and does not emulate other Kenyan athletes in this regard. However, in Kenya, joining the police force is relatively frequent among athletes; Olympic champion David Rudisha is just one example.

The Kenyan international bested his record by shaving off 30 seconds from his previous time and completed the marathon in 2:01:09.

Only three days before the tournament, the long-distance runner had played down his chances of setting a new world record at his sixth Berlin marathon.

And on Sunday, the man who will be 38 this year gave a reason to celebrate to all his supporters worldwide.

Is Eliud Kipchoge A Police Officer? His Profession

The Olympic gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge is not a police officer. But he was the source of happiness for one of the police officers in his country, Kenya.

In 2018, Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor, a police officer, decided to take part in IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. And the 25-year-old police officer went on to win the competition and thanked Eliud Kipchoge.

After winning, Kamworor claimed that everything went according to plan and that one of the factors contributing to his success was the shoes he borrowed from the Olympic champion.

At the Ugandan competition, the police officer had previously won a different race while donning the same shoes.

He borrowed the pairing of running shoes which he probably has kept somewhere hidden in the house, from Eliud during the Kampala World Cross Country.

Many Kenyan athletes are a part of the national service, even though Eliud Kipchoge has not joined the police force.

David Rudisha, an Olympic gold medalist, and Vivan Cheruiyot, the 2018 London Marathon champion, were among his friends who joined the police force in 2016.

Eliud Kipchoge’s Wife: Grace Sugut

Eliud Kipchoge’s wife, Grace Sugut, lives a double life. She is a real estate agent and a maize and dairy farmer. However, her husband’s biggest supporter, Grace, has been in love with her man since she was 19.

Grace was the neighbour and classmate of Eliud and her brother Amos and was Eliud’s best friend. Like her husband, Kipchoge’s wife had a straightforward upbringing, and the couple has replicated this in their parenting.

Grace has a hectic existence yet manages to go through all of them with flying colours. Not only does she have to keep with the schedule of her three kids—but also that of her iconic husband.

Grace, in her interview, shared that her husband’s favourite meal consists of ugali, chapati, and the Kalenjin mursik.

Eliud’s wife has participated in charitable endeavours, such as providing sanitary pads to girls who cannot afford them. In addition, Grace is attempting to establish the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation.

Lynne Kipchoge, Eliud Kipchoge and Grace Sugut’s only daughter, is their first child. The teenager has always maintained a low profile throughout the years despite being the daughter of the most revered athlete in his country.

Griffin and Jordan, Lynne’s two brothers, were a part of her childhood, and the three children were brought up in humility by their down-to-earth parents.

  1. Griffin Kipchoge

Eliud and Grace’s first son, Griffin, is nine years old and enjoys going on morning runs with his parents and siblings.

Like his father, Griffin Kipchoge is interested in running and is a devoted fan of his brother Gordon and the football team Barcelona.

Gordon Kipchoge is the youngest member of the Kipchoge family and is currently seven years old. He backs the Catalan club, just like his brother.

The great Kenyan athlete calls his kids his ignition key and believes his family has played a significant role in his career. Though Eliud is a busy man, he tends to chat with all his kids at the end of the day.

Studies about the Kenyan’s training sessions have been done over the years, one of which was done after his victory in Berlin.

During his training for the competition, Kipchoge runs 110–120 miles each week without taking a single day off. He only runs once daily for 18–20 km on his recovery days.

The extended runner also gets mindblowing exercises coupled with his lengthy runs. He has managed to run a time of 2:13 while in training, which is impressive for a 40-kilometre tempo.

Berlin Marathon’s new record for Eliud Kipchoge

The Kenyan international Eliud Kipchoge made a new record at the Berlin marathon. The previous record, which he had only set in the same tournament four years prior, was shattered by 30 seconds.

Eliud previously recorded a time under two hours in Vienna in 2019, but it was disregarded because it was achieved using a group of alternate pacemakers.
