Buddy Franklin’s indigenous heritage came from his mother, Ursula, a Whadjuk-Noongar woman. To distinguish him from his father, Lance Sr., he was first given the moniker “Buddy.”

In honour of scoring his 1000th goal on March 8 2022, the Australian Football League star covered himself in the Aboriginal flag following the game against the Geelong Cats on Friday night.

Buddy Franklin, who is 35 years old, got tattoos on his arms to show his pride in his heritage. He also posted pictures of himself wearing the flag like a cape on Instagram. His head appeared to be bowed.
