For those unfamiliar with the Netflix drama series Shadowhunters, Jace and Clary are not related. Misguidedly, Jace and Clary claimed to be Valentine’s relatives.

The program, created by Ed Hector, is based on Cassandra Clare’s YA fantasy novel series The Mortal Instruments.

The show is the second adaptation of the novel series, following 2013’s The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones film.

Clary Fray, portrayed by Katherine Mcnamara, has her world turned upside down on her eighteenth birthday when she learns that she is descended from a line of shadow hunters. These demon hunters are a cross between humans and angels.

They first met when Clary stumbled across Jace, Alec, and Isabelle slaying a demon at the Pandemonium Club. Even though they were hesitant to work together at first, they eventually became close as they searched for Clary’s mother.

On Clary’s birthday, the pair kissed the greenhouse at the Institute. Their budding romance was put on hold when Clary’s father, Valentine, revealed that he was a distant relative.

The siblings were well aware of their siblings’ affection for one another, but it didn’t stop them from falling in love. Therefore, Jace distanced himself from Clary and focused on other females. To move on, Clary started going together with her best friend, Simon.

In the season two premiere of Shadowhunter, Clary learns for the first time that Jace isn’t her brother and that he’s been keeping the truth from her since the season one finale.

As much as he still had feelings for Clary, he knew she was happy with Simon. Therefore he had no intention of telling her.

In the episode, Jonathan Morgenstern played Sebastian, a spy for Valentine, although he was playing the role of her actual brother. He made an effort to woo Clary into working with him.

Upon more investigation, Jace learned that he was the offspring of Valentine’s allies, Stephen Herondale and Celine Herondale. Since the Lightwoods adopted him, he has taken their surname and the name Jace.

Place realized they had been duped into thinking they were related but decided to join forces.

Clary Fairchild

Teenager Clary Fairchild, or Clary Fray as she is more often known, lives in Brooklyn with her mom and two younger sisters. Because of her mother’s abduction, Clary is thrust into the world of shadow hunters, a profession from which she knows nothing.

She hooks up with Jace, Alec, and Isabelle, three other Shadowhunters, on her mission to find her mother. They teach her the ropes of becoming a Shadowhunter and encourage her to embrace her newfound abilities.

Clary Morgenstern is the offspring of Lucian Graymark’s stepdaughter Jocelyn Fairchild, who was previously married to Valentine Morgenstern. Sister of Jonathan Christopher “Sebastian” Morgenstern.

Jace Herondale

The New York Institute is home to Jace Herondale and his adoptive family, where he has become an accomplished shadow hunter.

The Lightwood family adopted him; his new parents are Maryse and Robert. His adopted brother Alec and sister Isabelle are the Lightwoods.

Additionally, Valentine Morgenstern fooled Clara and Jace into thinking he was their father. Even though he was Valentine’s kid, he was brought up believing he was Michael Wayland’s.

Stephen and Celine Herondale, both close friends of Valentine’s, were his biological parents. To exact her vengeance on the Clave, he caused the death of his mother.

Simon Lewis

For the Shadowhunters, Simon Lewis has lost a day. He’s a sun-loving vampire, a rare kind indeed. Simon, Clary’s best friend, tagged along on her mission to track out her mother and was absorbed into the Shadow world along with her.

Simon and Clary became fast friends after meeting as youngsters. They dated for a while, but Clary’s affection for Jace eventually destroyed the relationship.

Alec Lightwood

Alec Lightwood was born to Maryse and Robert Lightwood; he has two siblings, Isabella and Max. He owns a winery with his adopted brother and fellow parabatai, Jace.

Alec, who had a crush on Jace, was first apprehensive and envious of Clary because of Jace’s emotions for her. Later, he began seeing Magnus Bane, an immortal warlock 400 years his senior and fell deeply in love with him.

Isabella Lightwood

Shadow hunter Isabelle Lightwood resides at the New York Institute. She has two elder brothers, Alec and Max, and a younger adopted brother, Jace.

Isabella carries guns in her boots and has a rebellious demeanour to match her good looks and air of danger. At first, she dated Simon on the side, but she eventually developed feelings for him and hid them.
