Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Arrested: Her Mugshot
One of the demonstrators whose incarceration was seen on tape was Democratic representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York.
However, a Facebook post from July 19 claims that Ocasio-Cortez was not taken into custody. In a single week, the article, which includes a video of Ocasio-Cortez with her hands behind her back, was shared 30 times.
The caption of the image reads, “poor day? chuckle a lot. Here is AOC acting like she has been arrested.”
Numerous photographs posted on social media show that Ocasio-Cortez was arrested on July 19 without handcuffs.
The image that was altered digitally appears to be Ocasio-photograph Cortez’s from a 2018 interview with Glenn Greenwald for the Intercept.
Siwei Lyu, a digital forensics expert at the University of Buffalo, asserts that “the evidence is very high” that the mugshot was created by splicing from the original photo.
Our investigation leads us to conclude that Ocasio-claim Cortez that she wasn’t detained during her protest outside the Supreme Court was false. The Democratic lawmaker was arrested and fined, as seen in photos she shared on social media. Additionally, 17 members of Congress were detained, according to the Capitol Police.
