When Van Roten was in elementary school, he joined the Baldwin Bombers, a local youth football team. Roten made his professional debut with the Green Bay Packers in 2012 after signing as a free agent after going undrafted.
Since being cut by the Packers, Greg has signed with other teams. These include the Seattle Seahawks, Toronto Argonauts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Carolina Panthers. On June 13, 2022, Roten signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills.
